Veneers Q & A

What are veneers?

Dental veneers are thin, custom-made shells made from porcelain or composite resin materials that cover the front surface of your teeth. Veneers help improve your teeth’s appearance by changing their length, shape, and color.

Veneers can help fix a variety of cosmetic problems, including:

  • Worn down teeth
  • Chipped or broken teeth
  • Gaps between your teeth
  • Uneven or misaligned teeth
  • Permanently discolored teeth
  • Worn down enamel as a result of medications

The dental staff at Dr. Corry Lanyon, DDS, prides themselves on making the highest-quality customized veneers so they look and function just like your natural teeth. It’s important to note that once your dentist places your veneers on your teeth, the procedure is irreversible.

What maintenance is required for veneers?

Veneers can last anywhere between 5-10 years assuming you care for them. The best way to do this is by brushing and flossing as you normally would every day. Additionally, it’s critical you avoid bad habits such as biting your nails or chewing on hard foods because your veneers can chip or crack.

What are the steps in getting veneers?

The first step in getting veneers is to schedule a consultation with the dental team at Dr. Corry Lanyon, DDS. During this appointment, your dentist examines your teeth to make sure veneers are a good option for you. Additionally, impressions or X-rays may be taken.

After your consultation, your dentist numbs the area around the treatment site so you won’t feel any discomfort. Next, a tiny amount of enamel from your teeth’s surfaces is shaved off to make room for the veneers.

The dental staff then takes impressions of your teeth and sends them to the dental laboratory for your veneers to be created. While you wait for your permanent veneers, your dentist places temporary veneers on your teeth.

At your final appointment, your dentist removes your temporary veneers and cleans your teeth. Your permanent veneers are applied to your teeth with dental cement creating a permanent and sturdy bond.

Veneers are a minimally invasive and fast option to achieve a smile you’re proud to show off. To learn more about them, call the office today or schedule your appointment online.
